Eric had wanted to drive all the way to New York to find a really interesting club, but decided that as nice as his sports car was (and it was very nice), a date that required a four hour one-way roadtrip was probably a terrible idea.

Which was why he and Jaina were now letting the valets at the 18th Street Lounge try to find parking in Dupont Circle. Eric grinned down at her as he held the door open. "We're just in time. They have tango lessons at 8 on Tuesdays."

Eric, it must be noted, liked winning bets.

"Honest is only one adjective. I'm sure I'm plenty of non-disappointing things, too," she said, smiling up at him. It was kind of nice to smile this much, really.

Eric leaned in a bit. "Like what?"

If he was going to lean in a bit, then she was just going to lower her voice a little bit. "Like I'm going to spoil the fun by just telling you. It's better to show than tell."

Eric's eyebrows waggled at her. "I like a show."

"Then I'll have to make sure you get one." Really, he'd probably be getting it if not for the lesson going on.

Wasn't it fortunate that class was over?

"Could you use a drink?" Eric asked.

Bye, audience... "That's not a bad idea," she agreed. "Thanks for the dance."

"You're quite welcome," he said. "Would you like a drink in the club, or some place quieter?"

"Do you have a pressing need to stay in the club?" she checked.

Eric laughed. "No. But I would love to see your apartment."

"Oh, is this where the negotiations to be invited in begin?" she teased. Even if she knew how that'd turn out already.

"Unless you need to be plied with alcohol first," Eric replied, "but I think that's cheating."

"It's not needed," she admitted. "Okay then. Convince me."

Eric leaned in so that his lips almost brushed her ear. "I am fascinated by interior design," he murmured.

Eric was a big liar.

She tried to pretend that didn't give her goosebumps when she said mock-seriously, "You'd be horribly disappointed in my place if that's your only reason."

"I'm sure I could find something to be impressed by," he continued.

[solo_sword]

"Okay, let's go with that," she decided, turning her face toward his.

Eric was going to take that as invitation to try to kiss her, then.

If anyone had told Jaina before a few weeks ago that she would spend any time at all kissing a vampire, she would have called them a liar. Yet here she was now, doing just that and feeling pretty good about that.

Eric would say it was a thousand years of practice that made him quite the expert at making women (and men, for that matter) feel pretty good about kissing him.

But there was kissing, which was much better than talking, so he didn't.

She had to admit- to herself, anyway- that she was now really curious what else a thousand years of practice had made him good at. She broke away when she remembered that at least she had to breathe, murmuring, "You're an effective negotiator."

He grinned at her. "I think you wanted to be persuaded."

She nodded, showing off some of that honesty. Who would blame her for that, really? "And I think that worked out pretty well."

"I agree," Eric said. "Let's get out of here."
