The Devil's Nest [Thursday Evening]

Eric was opening the club tonight, a move that kind of shocked the DJ when he arrived five minutes late.

After being assured Eric wouldn't eat him this time, the DJ promised to play whatever Eric wanted.

Turned out the DJ didn't have ancient Norse ballads.

The new DJ would be there tomorrow. Tonight you were subjected to the contents of Eric's iPod.

There were plenty of ancient Norse ballads on that.

Jaina hadn't been very social with anything except the machines at the gym this week, but by Thursday she decided she was being stupid and should get out at least for the length of time it took for her to finish a drink. And when she saw Eric, she figured she should let him see that she was okay after the weekend.

"Interesting music," she greeted him.

"I like it," Eric said with a little smile, patting to a spot on the leather seat next to him.

Jaina sat, giving him a little smile in return, even if she'd been kinda doing without those. "And how are you doing?"

"Something feels strange about tonight," Eric said. "I feel a...presence...that I should not. He's dead." He tilted his head to look at Jaina. "A familiar feeling for you?"

"I know a little about that," she said, suddenly a little concerned. "Who is it?"

"Godric," Eric murmured.

"Oh," she said, and frowned. "Wasn't expecting that."

"Me either," Eric said shortly, staring into space. "So, tell me about your weekend."

Jaina paused, and tried, "It was horrible, it ended, the end."

"I heard on the radio that some of the girls turned into boys," Eric said, watching her face, "so I can guess how that might be horrible."

Jaina was finding the table super interesting right now.

"Not my best experience," she said after a moment.

There was a slight pause.

"Would you like a hug?"

It wasn't exactly Eric's first instinct.

"Yeah," she said without much thought, going in for one. Besides, he should get one for sensing dead people anyway.

Eric hugged her back tightly. "Sorry your weekend totally blew," he murmured.

Jaina had to smile a little. "You had to phrase it like that, huh?"

"I did," Eric agreed, smiling.

"Thanks," she said, pulling back.

It still made her wonder sometimes how getting hugs from a vampire made her feel better.

"Any time, but the next one I'll charge you for," Eric made up.

"Please, you will not," she scoffed.

"I'll charge you a ride in a ship with weapons."

No, Eric, you still can't have a ship with weapons.

"I'm not giving you access to weapons and flight," she told him.

Eric frowned. "But I already have flight and weapons! Yours are just more interesting."

"Fine, then I'm not giving you the ability to rain death from above. How's that?" Jaina asked.

"Very cruel," Eric declared.

"Not to the entire rest of the world," she pointed out.
