The Devil's Nest [Thursday Evening]

Eric was opening the club tonight, a move that kind of shocked the DJ when he arrived five minutes late.

After being assured Eric wouldn't eat him this time, the DJ promised to play whatever Eric wanted.

Turned out the DJ didn't have ancient Norse ballads.

The new DJ would be there tomorrow. Tonight you were subjected to the contents of Eric's iPod.

There were plenty of ancient Norse ballads on that.

"I'll charge you a ride in a ship with weapons."

No, Eric, you still can't have a ship with weapons.

"I'm not giving you access to weapons and flight," she told him.

Eric frowned. "But I already have flight and weapons! Yours are just more interesting."

"Fine, then I'm not giving you the ability to rain death from above. How's that?" Jaina asked.

"Very cruel," Eric declared.

"Not to the entire rest of the world," she pointed out.

"But you don't know the entire rest of the world," Eric wheedled. "You know me."

"I know a lot of the people in it," Jaina said. "And there are areas of it that I really like."

"I will most likely not kill or maim any of those people or places!"

At least he was honest?

"That's not as helpful as I think you expect it to be," she told him.

Eric frowned. "Really?"

"Nope. Not even close, really," she said, almost apologetically.

Almost.

"You are no fun at all," Eric decided.

"You always say that and you know it's not true," Jaina told him.

"You're no fun when it comes to letting me fly cool spaceships," Eric modified. "And you never have sex with me any more."

Eric's unlife was very difficult.

"Because I think Jag would have a really serious problem with that," Jaina said. "And it's the weapons part where I put my foot down."

"Invite Jag along!"

Because that wouldn't be an extremely awkward conversation at all.

Jaina had definitely considered that option.

"You suggest it to him."

"Okay," said the one with no sense of shame.

"And good luck with it."

Because let's all try to imagine a world where Jag Fel would actually agree to that.

"I'm very persuasive," Eric replied with a grin.
