Ye Olde Saloon [19th Century Colorado, after sunset]

"Well, this is certainly...different," Eric observed as he and Jaina stepped between tied up horses in order to enter the saloon. From the way those inside stared, it wasn't that usual for women to be there who weren't, erm, working. "We can find somewhere else," Eric murmured. "Your call."

She snorted in amusement. "Does every party you go to end in someone getting hurt or maimed?"

Eric thought about it, then shrugged. "Most of them recently."

"I'm remembering this, just in case it ever becomes an option when we're deciding where to go," she warned.

"So you won't be my plus-one for the next vampire ball. Good to know."

[solo_sword]

"Was that really an option?" Since last she knew, he'd said it was better they didn't know about her there.

"Well, not yet," Eric admitted. "For some reason, I haven't been invited to any recently."

[solo_sword]

"You probably have a reputation," she teased.

[texted3times]

"Well, yes," Eric replied.

[solo_sword]

"Somehow I figured," Jaina smiled. "I'm sorry if it cuts in on your social life, though."

"Generally speaking, vampire balls are excruciatingly dull," Eric said. "I'm not really crying myself to sleep."

Plus vampire tears were gross.

"Most non-vampire balls are dull, too. You'd think with the money that goes into them, the party would be more fun." Though she preferred to go to parties that did not get super bloody, too.

"Or at least the food would be better," Eric said.

She opened her mouth to speak, and then closed it. "There are a few questions there and I'm not sure I want the answers to them."

His smile was a little toothy. "Oh?"

She really didn't want to ask, but a fairly morbid curiosity got the better of her. "How do you get bad food at one of those things?"

"Worn out blood donors," Eric said, making a face.

Huh. "You can get worn out from that? They'd have to be doing it a lot, wouldn't they?"

"Especially at a big vampire party if they didn't order enough staff," Eric replied.

Aren't you glad you asked?

Jaina blinked. "And that is why I should not start asking questions," she decided.

"As always, I'm happy to help," he said, smiling.

[solo_sword]

"You really do like leaving me staring, don't you?" she asked.

[texted3times]

"It brings me joy," he said.

[solo_sword]

"Brat." It wasn't the first time she'd called him that, and it probably wouldn't be the last.

"I'm several times older than the country we're currently sitting in," he said. "I'm not a brat."

He was.

"Keep telling yourself that," she grinned. "But I'll have you know, I'm never wrong about these things."
