Eric had wanted to drive all the way to New York to find a really interesting club, but decided that as nice as his sports car was (and it was very nice), a date that required a four hour one-way roadtrip was probably a terrible idea.

Which was why he and Jaina were now letting the valets at the 18th Street Lounge try to find parking in Dupont Circle. Eric grinned down at her as he held the door open. "We're just in time. They have tango lessons at 8 on Tuesdays."

Eric, it must be noted, liked winning bets.

"I can see how you'd fear for them," said she who was still about a foot shorter than him in heels. Heels which she was very glad she'd worn, by the way. "I just had no idea I'd be learning a new skill on a date."

Yeah, she minded so much.

"Everyone should know how to tango," Eric proclaimed. "Because you're new to it, I won't make you do it with a rose between your teeth."

Jaina had to laugh at that. "Yeah, you weren't going to be able to make me do that anyway," she promised.

"Even if I told you it was traditional?" he teased, leading her into a back room where a slightly-bored teacher perked up to see him.

He was used to that reaction.

"I have my limits, which don't extend as far as dancing with plants in my mouth," she replied with a smile. And noticing the teacher's reaction as she was looking around the room, she noted, "I think you got someone's attention..."

"It's because I'm very tall," Eric said, "or she likes your shoes."

"They are great shoes," Jaina said. "I've never taken lessons like this before, by the way, so I apologize now for my cluelessness." At least she wasn't uncoordinated?

"You'll be fine," Eric said. "They don't hand out certificates or anything to prove you've tangoed correctly."

[solo_sword]

"And a certificate would have looked good on my wall, too," she joked. "I guess we'll have to judge my skill by the state of your toes at the end of the night."

"Well, fortunately I heal very quickly," Eric said, winking, "but I might demand a foot massage if it gets really ugly."

The teacher finally stood up and assembled the rest of the students, then ran through a quick set of steps using Eric as her partner.

Jaina was not at all surprised that Eric got used as the example there. It was fine as far as she was concerned, since it meant she got to actually watch him. It also meant she had to pay attention to what was going on rather than just watching the hot guy, but she was good at multitasking.

Just ignore any half-smiles as she waited for the instruction to end.

Eric gave Jaina a bemused look as the instructor began making the rounds to correct the other couples' techniques. "Shall we?" he said, holding out his hands.

She took his hands, getting into position. She felt a little silly, but that was okay. Silly usually went with dancing, so that was normal. "You're probably not a novice at many things," she realized.

"I still don't really get the point of Tumblr," Eric admitted, "but I've been dancing for many, many years."

And it showed--he was very good.

For her part, she wasn't perfect, but she could keep up just fine. Good, less chance of embarrassing herself. "I can tell. I'm starting to think you brought up dancing just so you could show off," she teased.

"Would I do that?" Eric asked, dipping her.

Yes, yes he would.

Nice timing there, Eric. "Yes," she decided, mid-dip.

"So you have been paying attention," he teased.

[solo_sword]

"Just a little," she smiled. "There's also the fact that no one suggests something they're bad at as a win on a dare if they're trying to impress the other person."

"It's why we're not bowling right now," Eric deadpanned.

[solo_sword]

"Though it is a great mental image," she countered. It was one that was going to stick with her, too.

"It's the shoes, huh," Eric said.

[solo_sword]

"Definitely the shoes," she nodded. "Though I'm sure you'd find some way to make them work." Probably because the rest of him was so very high above the shoes.

"I might buy my own," Eric replied with a grin.

"You know now that anytime I come into the club I'm going to be looking at your shoes," Jaina warned. Yeah, that would happen.
